Birding Chile's Central Andes, A Quest for the Diademed Sandpiper-Plover and other Andean Specialties

Birding and nature photography trip exploring the imposing and scenic Andes above Santiago de Chile, to discover its wealth of birdlife specialties. Covering most of the bird families originated around the Andes - from canasteros to ground tyrants, from seedsnipes to hillstars - this comprehensive birding trip will surely be a rewarding experience for both the experienced and novice birder alike.

Full day tour (10-12 hours) from Santiago de Chile. Available from September through April.

Book this trip, reserve space now!

We will have a full day exploring the surroundings of El Yeso reservoir in the Andean foothills, where we’ll hopefully be rewarded with sightings of the endemic Crag Chilia plus our first Andean Condors, Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle, and several other Andean specialties such as Black-winged Ground-Dove, Grey-flanked Cinclodes, Black-billed Shrike-Tyrant and Yellow-rumped Siskin. Careful scanning of grasslands and streams may produce the stunning Diademed Sandpiper-Plover, our main target species for the day. This is a lovely mountain spot where we will also have chances for flocking Mountain Parakeets.
